Help Me Fight Against Canine Cancer - One Paw At A Time!

Hi Everyone!

Thank you for considering making a donation to the OVC Pet Trust!

This year I am participating in 8th Annual OTS Dog Jog to help raise money for the OVC Pet Trust. This non-competitive run/walk held at the University of Guelph will help OVC Pet Trust in their mission to help the pets we love-live longer, healthier lives. Support from events like the OTS Dog Jog has led to major improvements in anesthesia and pain control, heart treatment and monitoring techniques, protecting pets and people from infections, advancing cancer diagnosis and treatment, understanding the human-animal bond, and much more.

The OVC (Ontario Veterinary College) is a very important place to me and my family. In April 2016, our Great Pyrenees dog, Rosie, was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma in her rear right leg. Considering how young and active she was, our vet suggested we get in contact with the OVC as they were beginning a large study on the analysis of osteosarcoma in dogs with amputation, radiation and/or chemotherapy. Rosie was accepted into the study and in June, she underwent surgery to amputate her leg. On top of recieving chemotherapy, the study consisted of randomly selecting a group to be given a certain drug to see if there are any decreasing effects on the tumour if it re-appears. Fortunately, Rosie was selected to recieve this drug. Rosie learned to walk with one rear leg very quickly! After recieving the treatments, she went back for her routine chest exam and a few months later, the tumour had appeared in her lungs. Therefore, she was no longer eligible to take part in the study and was no longer given the drug. At that point, we just wanted to keep her happy for as long as we could. By the time it came for her next chest exam, the vets couldn't believe their eyes, the tumour had shrunk! This still happened without the drug! Since then, the tumour has continued to shrink. She is doing so well and we only have the amazing care and trust that the vets at the OVC provided to thank!

I am so honoured to be taking part in this amazing charitable run. It is the least I can do- we have an as-healthy-as-can-be dog still around for us to love, laugh and play with! Please join and help me raise as much money as possible for the OVC Pet Trust that they so deserve. Myself, my family and Rosie thank you in advance for your consideration and support!
