Ovarian Cancer Clinical Testing

Ovarian cancer is the most lethal reproductive cancer in women. It is a devastating disease due to the fact that it is most commonly diagnosed at late stage, where current therapies have limited effectiveness and survival rates are unacceptably low.

PROJECT OVERVIEW

I’m Jim Petrik, professor in the Department of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Guelph. Along with my collaborator, Jack Lawler from Harvard University and my team, we have relentlessly pursued a tool to give hope to women with ovarian cancer. Our work on this disease for the past decade has led to the development of a therapy that we are extremely excited about, and one that may dramatically improve the treatment of women with ovarian cancer. This crowdfunding opportunity will fund the necessary steps necessary before we can embark on a Clinical Trial in women with advanced stage ovarian cancer.

GOALS

The short term goal of our project is to finalize animal experiments to verify and validate this therapeutic approach. The long term goal is to move to a Phase I clinical trial in women with advanced stage ovarian cancer to finally be able to offer this innovative therapy to women who have few other options. In order to accomplish these goals, we hope to raise $10,000 to get us to the next very important stage of our research; bringing our therapy to women that desperately need it.

YOUR IMPACT

Your donations will fund essential additional experiments and will contribute towards the development of a Phase I Clinical Trial for women with advanced stage ovarian cancer which is anticipated to take place within the next year. We could be only a year away from being able to significantly improve treatment for women with advanced stage ovarian cancer, but we need your support to get us there!

Donors will have exclusive access to research updates and progress reports. At the conclusion of this funding effort, donors that give $100 or more will be invited to a seminar and presentation that I will give on the work that they so generously funded.
