Fred Ramprashad’s career at the University of Guelph spanned over 30 years. Fred was a committed supporter and champion of undergraduate students and as a former athlete himself, shared a great passion for Gryphon Athletics and student-athletes. He was instrumental in developing the academic advising handbook for student-athletes in the early 1980’s.
As the BSc. Programme Counsellor, Fred assisted countless students over his career. His support of student-athletes was legendary, guiding them to success in both their athletic and academic lives. The reception area of the BSc. Counselling area is named in his honour.
In 2001, the Department of Athletics honoured Fred with the John T. Powell Award for exemplary effort and devotion to the University’s Athletics program.
Fred completed his career at Guelph as the Associate Dean of the BSc. Programme and on his retirement in 2006, was made an Honorary Fellow of the University. In 2010, Fred was inducted into the Gryphon Hall of Fame as a Builder.
In 2000, through the direction of the College of Biological Science alumni, Fred’s commitment to the college and Department of Athletics was recognized with the creation of a scholarship in his name. The Fred Ramprashad Scholarship and medal are awarded to a student-athlete registered in the Biological Sciences with the highest average. Fred's family has asked that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to support the Scholarship fund.
